Tribute

Allan Thomas Munro

(1941- 2025)

“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings…”

On February 9, 2025, our precious Allan passed away suddenly, surrounded by loving family.

Allan had an exciting career as an RCAF pilot. He flew around the world, had many adventures and he and his family lived all across Canada. After retiring from the military, Allan had a fascinating second career in Corrections (the source of many entertaining anecdotes), during which he decided (for fun) to get his B.A. in Criminology and then nearly completed another degree in Psychology (again, for fun). He was an accomplished man, with an incredible mind.

However, he would be the first to tell you that what he treasured most in life was his family and his many close friends who have become family.

Allan met and fell in love with his wife, Gail, in 1971 and they married within four months. They enjoyed nearly 54 happy years together. Their children consider them to be a couple who have truly lived their faith as a shining example of kindness, community, love and (best of all) fun.

There will never be enough words to express what Allan meant to so many people, or how heartbroken we are now that he is gone. He will be deeply missed by his beloved Gail, his loving children Christian Munro (Virginia), Seeley Munro and “adopted” daughter Christine Bowden (Robert). Allan was thrilled to be “Poppa” to his grandson John and his granddaughter Chloe and “Grandpa Al” to his first “adopted” grandchildren, Tsiporah, Mickey, Kailey and Francesca.

In lieu of flowers, whenever you can, please share with Allan’s family any special memories you have. We love talking about him and remembering him, and we want his remarkable legacy to continue. A heartfelt thank you to the VGH emergency room staff and Father Ron Sequeira, for their compassion and care for our family.

Funeral service will be at Sacred Heart Church in Ladner at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Memorial mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Vancouver at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Light refreshments and many delightful “Al stories” to follow both.
